ZIP Files
Use this ZIP file online tool to compress files into an archive or extract a ZIP in your browser. Nothing is uploaded; capacity is limited only by browser memory.
Files will appear here.
How to zip files online
- Stay on the "Compress → ZIP" tab and drop in any mix of files — documents, photos, folders exported as files.
- Review the list and remove anything added by mistake.
- Click "Create ZIP & download" — the archive is built in your browser and saved straight to your disk.
To open an archive instead, switch to the "Extract ZIP" tab, drop a .zip file, and download the contents individually or all at once.
When this comes in handy
Sending many files as one attachment. Email and chat apps limit attachment counts and total size. Bundle everything into a single ZIP and send one file instead of twenty.
Opening a ZIP on a device without an archiver. Work PCs with locked-down installs, Chromebooks, borrowed machines — no software to install, the archive opens right in the browser.
Extracting an archive you don't fully trust. Peek at the file list first, then download only what you actually need instead of unpacking everything onto your disk.
Notes and limits
- Creates and extracts standard ZIP files compatible with Windows, macOS and Linux.
- Password-protected (encrypted) ZIPs are not supported yet.
- Capacity is limited by device memory — archives up to a few hundred MB work fine on modern computers.
FAQ
Can I create or open a ZIP file online without uploading it?
Yes. Compression and extraction use JSZip running in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
How do I zip files online for free?
Drop the files onto this page, click "Create ZIP & download", and you get a standard .zip archive. No account, no install, no watermark — and since it runs locally, it works even with confidential files.
Can I open a ZIP file on a Chromebook or a locked-down work PC?
Yes — that's a common use case. Switch to the "Extract ZIP" tab and drop the archive in. Nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded, so it works where you can't install an archiver.
Is there a size limit?
Only your device's memory. Archives up to a few hundred MB work fine on a modern computer.
Does it support password-protected ZIPs?
Not yet — encrypted archives need a different decoder. Standard ZIPs (Windows, macOS, Linux) all work.
